UP Film Institute’s Best Thesis is Cinemalaya Best Short Film; Another UP Alumnus wins big

Pusong Bato, a short film by Martika Ramirez Escobar, bagged the Best Short Film in the recently concluded 2015 Cinemalaya Film Festival held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). 

Pusong Bato tackles about the life of “a woman who fell in love with a rock”.

It  was also the 2014 Best Thesis in Narrative Film Category of the UP Film Institute where Escobar graduated in the same year. Professor Patrick Campos was her thesis adviser.

Meanwhile, Petersen Vargas won the Best Director for Lisyun Qng Geografia. Lisyun was the director’s autobiography, according to him.

Lisyun brought home the Special Mention award for Narrative Film in 2014 from the UP Film Institute where Vargas graduated, as well. He was under Professor Rolando Tolentino’s guidance.

Best Screenplay: Papetir by Darwin Novicio

Special Jury Prize: Wawa by Anj Macalanda

NETPAC Award: Wawa by Anj Macalanda

Audience Choice Award: Sanctissima by Kenneth Dagatan
